Are your hands over worked?

male hands

By Adelaide Kwaning

Your hands- you rely on them to keep your day running smoothly.

Most of us probably don’t think of tending to our hands the same way we care for our bodies. Some of us don’t think of our hands at all.

However, whether you are a stay-at-home dad, an artist or a retail clerk your hands are vital and should be shown some tender loving care. Below are a few tips to help care for your hands taken from Home Basics.

Hand massage

When it comes to gaining relief for aching hands a simple massage can do the trick. The best part is you can do it yourself. Try the following techniques.

  • Clasp your fingers and rub the heels of your palms together in a circular motion. Then with your hands still clasped, take one thumb and massage the area just below your other thumb in circular motions, moving outward to the centre of the palm. Repeat with the other hand. Be sure to rub some lotion into your nails. They need moisture just as much as your skin.
  • With one hand, gently pull each finger of the other hand. Then finish by using your thumb and index finger to pinch the webbing between all your fingers.

Work those muscles

Did you know that every time you grab something you are using 35 muscles at once? With overuse these muscles can weaken making your hands feel sore and tired. You can strengthen your hands by doing these exercises:

  • Strengthen and stretch your wrist and forearm right on your desk. With your hand hanging over the edge, keep your fingers relaxed and bend your wrist up and down slowly. Repeat this ten times.
  • Another great way to flex your fingers is by lightly touching your thumb to each finger to form the letter “O,” (while keeping your wrists straight) and counting for five seconds each time. Stretch your finger out wide after each “O”.

Tame your typing

Too many hours on a keyboard or clicking a mouse can damage the nerves, muscles and tendons in your hands and wrists. This, consequently, results in pain, tingling and numbness. To avoid these symptoms that come with repetitive stress injuries apply these healthy computer use tips.

  • Make sure you take mini breaks from your computer every hour. Consciously take your hands off the keyboards and turn your hands and wrists up on their sides, resting them gently on your lap.
  • Instead of pounding on the keyboard, make an effort to type softly and don’t over stretch your fingers.

Your hands are an important part of your daily success. Be sure to treat them with tender kindness and give them just as much awareness as the rest of your body.

Try LOccitane Shea Butter Hand Cream. It's been sworn as one of the best hand creams out there
