The most helpful thing I do to "be present" is to truly realize that I am not.
I sit at my desk or go through my home life or have a conversation and then I realize that i have been M.I.A.
Keeping images, pictures, books, personal symbols around that refer to being present set in motion the thought/realization that I am not present and now need to collect myself and sense my present reality.
