Are You Thinking Sick?

By Adelaide Kwaning

Your body is more than capable of healing itself. It amazes me how it has natural healing capabilities that nobody in the field of science or medicine can completely understand. If you break your arm, it will heal itself. All the doctor has to do is to make sure the bone is properly set in place so the natural healing process can proceed.

Watch an injured animal and notice how it will rest, drink lots of water and stay away from too much exertion. It knows how to take care to take care of itself.

Unfortunately, many humans are not that clever. We push ourselves to intolerable limits. We don’t eat and rest properly and what’s worse is how impatient we are about the time it takes for our bodies to recover from a major disease or injury.

Have you ever had to take time off work or school because you were sick? Did you spend the day relaxing and letting your body take care of itself or did you stress over deadlines and business meetings you were missing? Did you trust your body to get you well at the right moment or were you grumbling, “I can’t afford to be sick”.

If you focused on the latter, chances are you made yourself more sick? Your negative thoughts were actually interfering with the healing process. In fact you may have talked yourself into being sick, by worrying so much about your physical health you may have made yourself sick.

Perhaps you are always telling people about a physical problem and expecting it to get worse. Or you may be worrying about your physical health because you have abused your body for so long that you are concerned about how much longer it can hold out.

Constantly thinking about your health is “thinking sick.” I should know. For years my thoughts were consumed around my health, will I ever get better? How long will my “fair condition” hold out? And I rejected invitations out because I didn’t think my body could take it. It wasn’t till I started trusting my body that I began to feel better.

If you want your body to be healthy and to trust it, then forget about being a sickly person. Start listening to it when it tries to tell you what it needs to feel “whole again”. The next time you are sick or injured give your body credit for being able to heal.

Stop thinking sick. Forget about expectations that your health is only going to worsen. Instead, start believing that you can avoid most of your illnesses if you only turn your attitude around. Positive people heal faster. If you think healthy and respect your body, you will experience less head aches, cramps, body aches, colds and even hypertension.

No one likes to feel unwell which is why it is so important to fully appreciate your body, trust it, and have confidence in it. Its natural ability to heal itself will guide you in meeting all your ultimate living needs.
