Health Benefits of Kiwi
Kiwis: They’re no bigger than about the size of an egg, but they offer a host of health benefits.
While munching one of these delicious fruits the other day, I wondered what was I really putting in me? Turns out kiwis are the most nutrient-dense of all major fruits.
In just one of the little fruits you’ll find
- Vitamin C
- potassium
- copper
- dietary fiber
- magnesium
- Vitamin E
- manganese
One serving of kiwi (two medium-sized kiwis) holds more potassium than a banana, more Vitamin C than an orange and eight times the nutrients of an apple. Studies have shown that the nutritional value of kiwis is, ounce for ounce, superior to that of other fruit.
Not only are kiwis delicious and a good way to get your nutrients, but they also help you reduce your chance of cancer, heart disease and blindness. Kiwis are the richest source of lutein which helps to prevent all the above diseases. In adults kiwis may reduce triglycerides and blood clots. They may also promote respiratory health in children.
Good things really do come in small packages. With all these health benefits kiwis are definitely a fruit that you will want to incorporate into your diet.
Choose semi-firm, unblemished fruit with uniform skin. Kiwis sweeten with age but should be consumed before they become mushy; they will ferment if left too long. Refrigerate when soft.
